Roller Conveyor Design - How Uneven Loads Affect the Design
Uneven loads on roller conveyors are difficult to carry unless a roller conveyor is specially designed for that. While designing a Gravity Roller Conveyor or Powered Roller Conveyor, we use three or more rollers to make the product more stable. But in the case of uneven loads, it may still fail to remain stable.
You have to consider that uneven loads may affect product behaviour, so while designing roller conveyors in India:
- Support the uneven portion by three rollers so it does not topple.
- The even portion of the load may get stuck in the gap between rollers; to avoid this, reduce the roller pitch to the minimum possible according to the size of the uneven portion.
In the image below, the carton box has a concentric load at the arrow portion which causes instability and unwanted rotation unless supported correctly.

Works as explained previously.
