Curve Roller Conveyors are unavoidable, integral parts of layout and production lines, irrespective of the industry. There are various options to make curve conveyors, such as rollers, belt conveyors, and modular belt conveyors.

The Requirement

A well-known customer from South India wanted a curve conveyor system to carry an automobile wheel rim. This rim was fully machined. Being a curve requirement, we preferred a roller conveyor system.

Choosing the Right Roller Coating

Since the rim was fully machined, metal rollers were not recommended directly, as they would cause friction and result in scratch marks on the rims. We suggested PU (polyurethane) coating for the rollers.

Taper Rollers at the Curve

At the curve conveyor, we used taper rollers. These taper rollers are made using PP molded sleeves plugged over each other to form the taper portion. Since the rim was in contact with the PP sleeves here, no PU coating was required for these rollers.

It is always advantageous to use taper rollers at curves. At curves, there is a risk of the product leaving its position — the product tends to move towards one edge of the conveyor, generally the inside radius. By using taper rollers, this is avoided, and the product does not leave its position at curves.

Controls & Safety

The conveyor system also has a control panel, VFDs, and sensors to avoid the product falling off at the other end.
